What we offer
Become a founding team member
At Cooper we're working to create a trusted professional network built on meaningful introductions and real relationships.
It's Day 1 for us, so instead of adapting current structures and behaviors you get to come up with some yourself. You'll be part of a founding team which is not for everybody.
It's a big opportunity to make your mark and be responsible for your own impact. Put your flag in the ground. Take the bull by the horns. You get it.
We'll share what we've learned during our experiences at companies like Google, Booking or Hyves. Our CTO was an early engineer at several growing companies, so there's a lot you can pick his brain on. That includes all the stuff we messed up, horribly.
Our team is supported by the same investors who once supported Slack, Lyft, Skype, and TransferWise, former and current team members of Apple, Facebook, Google, and Shopify, and founders of companies such as Clearbit, Framer, Mesosphere, and WeTransfer.
What we're saying is this: This is not our first picnic. Or the second for that matter.
We've shipped big things before and know how to execute well. That's an opportunity for you to learn and contribute.
Compensation for focus
We love ramen! Just not every day.
That means your compensation pays all the bills and keeps you focused. Our offer also includes a share in the company at a seed valuation. We determine your compensations based on market values, your previous experiences, and your performance.
All compensation at Cooper is completely transparent. You'll know what everyone else earns and how to take it to the next level.
Space to grow
We're eager to give you the space to grow into the perfect role for you. Next to mentorship we'll support your professional growth by connecting you with mentors from our network, and giving you a budget to go to conferences or classes to level up your skills.
Perhaps you'd like to focus on big data infrastructure. Or maybe managing the engineering team sounds like the bigger challenge. Or our mobile deployment is something you'd like to improve on. Or all of the above!
That's up to you. I'm only a job post, not a career advisor.
What we're looking for
Our team needs to be as diverse as the communities and users we serve. We're encouraging people from underrepresented groups in tech to apply.
Chat with us using the bubble on this page or email us, and we'll be happy to answer any questions you might have.
Affinity for our stack
You'll mostly be building mobile apps, so some familiarity with iOS and/or Android is a plus. You don't have to be an expert in Objective-C and we don't expect you to like Java. (Nobody does.)
We run on MySQL on AppEngine, as well as other Google Cloud Platform backends like Firebase. Our team will make sure however that you have all the APIs you'll need, and you don't have to be an expert in back-end for this position.
There might be some things that the team at Cooper can improve on, but the one thing that they are experts in is how to learn fast. This is exactly what we look for in you too.
Most of what you know comes from your passion for doing new things and learning how it all works along the way. You can direct yourself and operate independent from other teams. If it's not anyone's job, you might take it on to learn yourself a new skill and help your team at the same time.
It's fine that you don't know everything yet. The only thing you need is an ability to learn, the faster the better.
Obsessed with tech
We don't believe in fixating on a single language alone. Whatever tools are best for the job, those are what interest us. You should have a similar mindset.
This could mean that you've been called an "all-round developer" at one point or want to become one. You're not an expert on everything per se, but you do have the interest to look outside of the toolset in front of you and wonder: "Could I use a better tool for this?"
- Team first
We don't believe in the myth of the shy engineer, hurled up in the corner of the office, quietly being brilliant without uttering a single word.
Engineering is a discipline that has to speak up for itself and communicate its vision, just as much as designers or product managers tend to do.
This is a skill that you might still have to work on. We'll make sure that you're involved in team decisions, and that you'll learn how to speak your mind in such a way that other disciplines (like designers or product managers, the scoundrels) pay attention.
Flattery will get you everywhere
Why do you personally think that the world could use a better professional network? Why is Cooper a match for you? If you have a personal story that shows you have a passion for the subject, it'll definitely help.
